Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but never actually gotten around to doing? Maybe there are a few things on that list? Is there actually a physical list with these desires written down or are they all in your head, just waiting to be acted upon when the time is right? What if that time is NOW?!
All of 2018 I had it in my mind that I wanted to start a yoga practice… I kicked off the year in competition prep and competed in five shows all over the country through the spring and summer. The training and cardio demands on my time to accomplish my goal of going professional in the sport of bodybuilding took priority over starting a yoga practice that year.
Then 2019 rolled around. I had earned my professional status and I had no intention of competing that year… and yet it still took me months before I joined an online yoga website to begin doing yoga in the comfort of my own home. A few months into doing online yoga I decided to join a studio close to my home and started going 2-4x per week on top of my regular training protocol.
By October of 2019 I decided I was ready to really commit to my practice by taking a 200 hour yoga teacher training at the studio I had joined. The training was 4 hours a day, 5 days per week, for 6.5 weeks. Building a strong yoga practice was a goal of mine, just like going professional in the sport of bodybuilding the year before. I decided that this was for me and I signed up.
While both of these goals couldn’t necessarily happen at the same time, I knew what I ultimately wanted and I took the steps I needed to get me there when I was able to successfully commit. Neither goals happened overnight and both required sacrifice, commitment, and hard work. I ended up receiving my 200 hour YTT during my first trimester of pregnancy in November of 2019!
So what is it that YOU want to commit to this year? Is it something you’ve already been working towards and want to take it to the next level or something that is new and going to require you to step outside of your comfort zone?!
